Volunteer Service Program

Volunteer Application Form

Overview

The Volunteer Service Program at Hillcrest Home offers a wide spectrum of opportunities for service, personal growth, and the development of lifelong friendships. First of all, this service venture enables young people to positively impact the lives of the elderly by serving them with the hands and heart of Christ. As a result of the Christian witness displayed by these volunteers, numerous residents have committed their lives to God. The funds which are generated, through the use of volunteer staff, are utilized to support foreign missions.

In addition, a term of service at Hillcrest often produces positive lifelong changes in the life of the individual who comes to serve. Leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and a new concept of sacrifice are among the character qualities developed. Spiritual growth is stimulated through a weekly, on campus, Christian Growth Program, where practical application of God's Word is taught.
Furthermore, Hillcrest is fertile ground for the development of lifelong friendships. The intensity of living and working closely with each other, quickly turns strangers from all over the United States into family. Relationships are developed here that will last a lifetime.

About the VS program

The VS'ers receive full room and board, as well as several other employment benefits, plus a monthly allowance for personal expenses. The rest of the VSers' pay is dedicated to mission work. As a result of this program, substantial monthly contributions are channeled into mission work through MIC. These outreaches include evangelism and church-planting efforts in the United States, Canada, Belgium, and Ireland. There are also contributions to Choice Books, and various other Christian services.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth..But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven...For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matt. 6:19-21

Each worker has one day off each week. Vehicles are furnished for day-off groups to visit the many points of interest in the beautiful Ozark Mountains surrounding the home. The Buffalo National River is only twenty miles away and is a rugged and beautiful park for hiking, boating, camping, and picnicking. Vacation and day-off requests are granted as the schedule allows, and according to priority of the requests. A Sunday off is given by turn within each department.

"Thinking about Hillcrest, I think about... Kindness... Walks... Prayer time... Volleyball... Taking care of the residents... Patience and love... Lasting friendships... Picnics and hikes... Working and playing with other young people... I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the residents and to meet new friends." -A VS'er

How You Can Help

"What can you do to help Hillcrest Home?" Because of the steady turnover of staff, we are constantly recruiting and training new workers. You could be one of those new workers! We regularly have openings for certified nursing assistants, kitchen workers, floaters, laundry workers, janitors and maintenance men. The Nursing Department is responsible for direct patient care, and other departments are indirectly involved, but no less important. Understandably, you may have a preference of job assignment. We will be glad to accommodate your job preferences as much as possible. Call us for a current job-opening list!

One qualification necessary to serve at Hillcrest is...

"Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself."Luke 10:27

Serving is certainly not glamorous, even though it may put you in the spotlight at times. While it often consists of very routine and hard work, nothing can equal the satisfaction of "Serving Christ by Serving Others".

"For I 'was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I 'was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me."Matt. 25: 35 & 3

How VS Work Benefits You

Serving at Hillcrest will provide opportunities for you to share your talents and time in constructive ways. You will learn the joy of sacrificial giving in new and more fulfilling ways! A thought to ponder: "Worthwhile fulfillment comes from serving a worthwhile cause." In addition to this, serving at Hillcrest prepares you for further service in the work of the church, and life as a whole. Young men will learn leadership skills, and everyone learns a lot about interpersonal relationships. You will make many new, lifetime friends, and broaden your horizons immeasurably! If you give 15 months or more of your time to Hillcrest, you will be privileged to accompany a group trip to a foreign mission, sponsored by Hillcrest.

A time of service at Hillcrest will help you to discover who you are, and can help you determine more of God's plan for your life. The training and experience of caring for the elderly will be a valuable asset later in your life. You may discover that you have the potential to go on to nurse's training. Hillcrest provides a subsidized nurse's training program through North Arkansas College, an excellent and reputable local school. This benefit allows you to achieve a college education while living in the shelter and structure of Hillcrest Home.

Last, but not least, is our "Christian Growth Program'9 (CGP). We understand that your spiritual needs are basic to your satisfaction and fulfillment in life, as well as being an integral link to your performance in the service unit here at Hillcrest. The spiritual character of the whole staff is reflected in the quality of care provided. Part of CGP is a weekly class of practical Bible-based instruction and interactive discussion on subjects youth face every day. We also provide one-on-one counseling to meet your needs in a more personal way.

"My year at Hillcrest has truly been one of the best years of my life. I have learned so much about giving, and about the important things in life. I have made many good friends. I thank God for what He's done in my life and for allowing me the opportunity to serve at Hillcrest." -A VS'er

"It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:3
